Founded in 2019 by Oubou Mohamed and Jalal Hmani, Berber Weave emerged as a brand driven by a profound appreciation for the cultural heritage and craftsmanship found within Amazigh textiles. Witnessing the gradual erosion of these narratives in the buying process and the undervaluation of artisans' work due to intermediary sales structures, they were inspired to forge a new path—a path that would foster fairness and equality while celebrating the time-honored Amazigh weaving tradition.
Situated in Taroudant, Morocco, nestled at the base of the majestic Atlas Mountains in the Sous Massa province, Berber Weave operates from a location that resonates with the spirit and essence of this treasured art form.

The ancient Moroccan weaving tradition traces its roots back to 600 B.C., embodying a legacy of generations steeped in tradition, artistic prowess, and profound symbolism. Despite the enduring love for these rugs, a significant part of their history and symbolic depth has gradually faded away amidst the challenges of translation and commercial transactions. At Berber Weave, we ardently uphold the belief that the captivating narratives woven into each piece should be safeguarded and disseminated.

Our sourcing
At Royal Moroccan Rugs, we personally engage with each artisan, conducting face-to-face interactions. We encourage these remarkable women to open up about the narratives woven into their textiles, while actively involving them in negotiations to ensure equitable remuneration for their invaluable time and labor.
